We recently shared the Scottish Government’s announcement of £100m in additional funding for self-employed, micro and SME businesses impacted by Covid-19. We This post uncovers some of the detail in the announcement relevant to the cultural sector.

The £100 million fund is broken into three separate funds:

  • £20 million Creative, Tourism & Hospitality Enterprises Hardship Fund, managed by the Enterprise Agencies in partnership with Creative Scotland and VisitScotland for creative, tourism and hospitality companies not in receipt of business rates relief

  • £34 million Newly Self-Employed Hardship Fund, managed by Local Authorities

  • £45 million Pivotal Enterprise Resilience Fund, managed by the Enterprise Agencies for vulnerable SMEs

Culture Counts is pleased that 'Creative' has been included in the 'Creative, Tourism and Hospitality Fund'. It’s inclusion recognises culture and creativity’s value, and the sector’s unique challenges.

The fund is for creative companies of up to 50 employees not receiving business rates relief. There will be grants available of between £3,000-£25,000 where it can be demonstrated support is needed.

The Scottish Government has also added £1 million to Creative Scotland’s Bridging Bursaries for the not-for-profit sector, which was oversubscribed.

We continue to engage with businesses on a regular basis to understand their needs and press the UK Government to deliver for them.
— Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop
