UK Government Launch Independent Review of Research Bureaucracy

The UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has launched an independent review of research bureaucracy. The review focuses on Higher Education Institutions and research organisations. It includes university-business R&D interaction but not research undertaken by business.

Professor Adam Tickell (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sussex) has been commissioned to lead the review. The aim is to advise on a substantial reduction in unnecessary research bureaucracy in government and the wider sector.

The review process inlcudes evidence gathering meetings across the UK and an open call for evidence to add to inform the review’s recommendations. The deadline for written submissions is 1 October 2021.
