Replacing European Structural Funds
As the UK leaves the EU it will no longer receive European Structural Funds. Under the current programme Scotland benefits from over £780m of such funding 1.
The funding provides investment for economic development, including support for businesses & employment. Examples include Modern Apprenticeships and Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme.
With this funding no longer available there may be impacts on local authorities, community groups, funding bodies and enterprise and skills agencies. To replace this funding, the UK Government has pledged to set up a Shared Prosperity Fund 2 . The UK Government has not yet published its consultation on the Fund.
The Scottish Government is now conducting "a consultation to seek views on how best to develop our own thinking on how any replacement funding vehicle can best meet the needs of our citizens, our businesses and our communities." 1
