“The National Planning Framework (NPF) is a long term plan for Scotland that sets out where development and infrastructure is needed to support sustainable and inclusive growth.”

Scottish Government https://www.transformingplanning.scot

The Scottish Government has launched a new website - www.transformingplanning.scot - which will be a “hub” for updates on Scotland’s fourth National Planning Framework (NPF4). Below is a brief introduction to what’s on the site, and information on how cultural organisations can get involved at this stage.

Process of development

Two ways individuals and organisations can contribute to NPF4 at this early stage are;

  1. ScotPlan 2050 Roadshow will be a series of workshop sessions across Scotland. More info here. Those interested should follow @ScotGovPlanning on twitter for updates.

  2. Call For Ideas. Individuals and organisations can submit written ideas until 31st March 2020. This ‘Get Involved’ page has the email contact and details on what to send them. Culture Counts would like to hear from any members who wish to send us their considerations at this stage to support a collective response. Contact us using the button below.

NPF4 Outcomes

Written submissions to the call are being asked to consider 5 questions which can be read on the ‘Get Involved’ page. However, the website also lists that the NPF4 will also address the following high level outcomes:

  • Meeting the housing needs of people living in Scotland including, in particular, the housing needs for older people and disabled people

  • Improving the health and well-being of people living in Scotland

  • Increasing the population of rural areas of Scotland

  • Improving equality and eliminating discrimination

  • Meeting any targets relating to the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases

  • Securing positive effects for biodiversity
