Education and Skills Committee - Music tuition in schools inquiry report
A note of concern: The future of instrumental music tuition in schools
Education and Skills Committee at The Scottish Parliament published their report on the Music Tuition in Schools Inquiry on 22 January 2019.
Background
The Education and Skills Committee agreed on 3 October 2018 to undertake an inquiry into music tuition in schools. The Committee issued a call for views and received 26 responses. Responses were from teachers, parents, schools and other interested parties.
In November 2018, the Public Petitions Committee referred Ralph Riddiough's petition on Free Instrumental Music Services to the inquiry. Culture Counts wrote a news post in September last year about Ralph Riddiough’s presentation to the Petitions Committee. This was an excellent example of using petitions, and Ralph is a good person to follow on twitter if you want to keep up with news on music tuition in schools. The petition was also supported by Culture Counts member Making Music Scotland.
The Committee recognises the many ways in which a music education can benefit young people, as well as enriching both local and national culture and the economy.
