Motion on a National Wool Strategy for Scotland
Culture Counts were pleased to support a letter to the First Minister, led by Lorna Slater MSP, calling for Scottish Government to commit to developing a national Wool Strategy, when they publish their Programme for Government this September.
The letter highlighted that the many sectors of Scottish Economy that produce, use and otherwise interact with wool are poorly served by the structure of the Scottish Government, which has separate ministries and departments for the nine or ten portfolios the wool industry operates in. It asked the First Minister to bring together the different parts of Government that look after wool and get them to work together on a targeted Wool Strategy for Scotland.

Our view is that with the Scottish Government has committed to consulting on a Culture and Arts Bill this parliament, this call for a Wool Strategy to create a more joined-up approach to policy and delivery is a clear example of what that new legislation could achieve at scale across Scotland's culture sector.
The related motion, A Wool Strategy for Scotland (S7M-00255), has achieved cross-party support.
