We’ve pulled together data from previous culture budgets and the government’s 2022 spending review.


The culture budget for 2021-22 is £349.5million. The spending plan for 2022-23 is £294million. This is a 15.9% decrease in cash terms.

A spending review is not a budget and we envisage that what is outlined is the minimum intended to spend over the period.

The table below includes real terms comparisons. Using 2021-22 as a base year we’ve used the Scottish Parliament’s inflation calculator to estimate of what the value of the culture budget in different years.
